Breast MRI
An MRI of the Breasts provides your physicians with valuable and detailed information that cannot be obtained by other imaging modalities and allows them to better evaluate your breasts´ health without the use of radiation.
For Breast MRIs, patients over the age of 60 should fax or bring blood work results for Bun and Creatine (your physicians should give you the prescription for the blood work). Women who are currently on hormone replacement therapy need to be out of their treatment for at least three months before they can have a Breast MRI. Also, for non-menopausal patients the Breast MRI can only be conducted between the 7th and 14th day of their menstrual cycle.
***Check with your physician before stopping any hormone replacement therapy or any treatment.
During a Breast MRI the patient will lie on the examination table and will have to remain still with raised hands for the length of the procedure. The procedure will be conducted with and without contrast. The contrast will be injected intravenously.
All of our diagnostic examinations are interpreted by Board-Certified Radiologists. The result of your Breast MRI will be sent to your referring physician as soon as it interpreted. It is the patients´ responsibility to contact their referring physician to discuss the results of their examination and ask for further recommendations.
