TOTAL BODY SCAN

FAQ'S

What is a Total Body Scan?
The Total Body Scan is an innovative approach to preventive medicine carefully designed by our Board-Certified physicians at Digital Medical Imaging. The Total Body Scan package includes: CT scans of head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis, CT Cardiac Calcium Scoring, CardioChek lipid and glucose blood screening and a medical consultation with a board certified physician.
Why should I get a Total Body Scan?
Total Body Scan can detect many diseases, including common forms of cancer, in their early stages when most treatable. Early detection increases the probability of slowing, stopping or even reversing disease progress. If you have a family history of heart disease, diabetes or cancer, Total Body Scan can give you the piece of mind of knowing your health condition.
What are the benefits of a Total Body Scan?
A Total Body Scan may be beneficial for you because it provides you with real, useful and detailed information about your body that can help you diagnose a disease in its early stages.
What is included in a Total Body Scan?
• High resolution Computed Tomography (CT) scans of head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis.

• Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring

• CardioChek blood screening of lipid panel and glucose.

• Consultation with Board Certified Physician.

• Folder with selected images of scan, medical report and CD with all the results.
What areas of the body are covered by/ scanned in a Total Body Scan?
Total Body Scan analyzes areas from the head to the pelvis and covers the neck, chest, and abdomen. Areas covered in the abdomen include the kidneys, liver, gall bladder, abdominal aorta, adrenal glands, lymph nodes, and spleen.
Does the scan detect Cancer/ Tumors?
Total Body Scan may find abnormalities such as cysts, nodules, or tumors in the lungs as small as a grain of rice, and in the abdomen as small as an eraser head, or larger. If an abnormality is detected, it is up to you and your primary physician to decide if further testing is necessary to determine if the abnormality is cancerous or not. Your Total body Scan report will certainly help you and your physician make that decision.
What equipment is used for the Total Body Scan?
Total Body Scan uses state of the art scanners from Philips Medical Systems. Our Computed Tomography scan is a high resolutions ten slice Philips MX8000 IDT. For blood screening purposes we use CardioChek® PA Analyzer.
What is Computed Tomography/ CT scan/ CAT scan?
A Computed Tomography also known as a CT or CAT scan is a non-invasive procedure that combines X-ray technology with high-tech computers to produce detailed images of the inside of your body. Total Body Scan uses Helical Philips CT scans to obtain three dimensional images of your body and provide you with useful detailed information for early disease detection.
What will happen during the CAT scan/ CT scan portion of my Total Body Scan?
You will be brought to the CT scan room and asked to lie comfortably on your back on the bed of the CT scanner. When the scan begins the bed will slide through the scanner and you will have to hold your breath for few seconds while the scanner takes pictures of your chest, abdomen and pelvis. The certified technician performing your scan will be able to see and hear you at all times and guide you through your Total Body Scan.
Will I feel anything?
You will not feel anything. However, individuals that have difficulty lying on their back could find the CT scan to be uncomfortable.
What if I am claustrophobic?
Our CT scanners are large and open ended on both sides; so you will not feel enclosed at anytime.
What is a Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring?
A Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring is a non-invasive procedure that detects the presence of calcium plaques on the walls of the arteries that supply oxygen to the heart muscle. Presence of plaque on these arteries can be a sign of arthrosclerosis a disease also known as coronary artery disease (CAD). Early detection of calcium plaques is very important for the treatment of heart disease.
